PSO's second season under their new conductor opens with a perennial favourite, Dvorak's 9th Symphony 'From the New World', whose enchanting blend of the composer's native Czech musical idioms with American themes evokes the wide open spaces of the mid-west. The slow movement features one of the best-loved tunes in the classical repertoire, played hauntingly on the cor anglais (although originally written for clarinet!). The concert opens with Hamish McCunn's Land of the Mountain and the Flood, with its depiction of the majestic landscapes of Scotland, before guest soloist Karolina Csathy sets the stage alight with Bruch's Violin Concerto No 1. The orchestra are excited to welcome London-based Karolina to join them in presenting this gem of the romantic repertoire. £18.50; Disabled/Unwaged/Student/Young Scot cardholders £16.50 (inc £2.50 booking fee per ticket); Under 16s go free (up to two per paying adult)
