The National Youth Orchestra of Scotland makes their triumphant return to Perth Concert Hall with a diverse programme of modern and contemporary British orchestral voices.

Written at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sarah Lianne Lewis’ Creatures of Dust and Dreams is a playful and texturally inventive piece exploring human vulnerability and connection. Its swirling orchestral figures invite listeners into a soundscape where each instrument briefly becomes a soloist. Peter Maxwell Davies’ Orkney Wedding, with Sunrise follows, painting a vivid picture of Scottish nuptials, from a stormy arrival to raucous dancing. The piece concludes with a radiant sunrise, heralded by highland bagpipes. Ralph Vaughan Williams’ A London Symphony distils the essence of the pre-war English capital, juxtaposing the bustle of lavender vendors and hansom cabs with serene squares backed against the stoic Thames.
