Beethoven 200: Perth Symphony Orchestra presents the Fifth Symphony

2027 marks 200 years since the death of Ludwig van Beethoven. Join Perth Symphony Orchestra as they mark the anniversary with the most famous of all Beethoven’s symphonies.

From its four unmistakable opening notes, Beethoven’s Fifth builds through tension towards triumph, proving that, even two centuries on, it remains music of remarkable power and profundity.

Rising young pianist Rhea Fitzgerald joins the orchestra for Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Written when the composer was just twenty, it combines youthful virtuosity with expansive lyrical writing.

The concert opens with Schubert’s lively Rosamunde Overture. A great admirer of Beethoven, Schubert was a torchbearer at his funeral in Vienna in 1827.

Three great composers, an outstanding young soloist, and one of the most recognisable symphonies ever written – a fitting celebration of Beethoven’s extraordinary legacy, 200 years after his death.
