The Shona Choir is an African/Scottish choir based in Edinburgh, presenting original songs from African composer and playwright, Neo Vilakazi, who lives and works in Scotland.

Shona, is as Scottish a name as you can find, but is also a tribal name in Africa. In this concert performance, the voices of Africa and Scotland are combined in the richest of harmonies, with an eclectic western twist, akin to Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Paul Simon’s Graceland album.

The music is inspired by historical events and the socio-political turmoil of Robert Mugabe’s rule of Zimbabwe and comes from Neo’s work in progress - Shona The Musical - a cross-cultural love story that transcends racial barriers.
