Perth Film Society presents
Dirt Road to Lafayette | On-line via Vimeo | 1h 40min; PG, 2018
Online Q&A via Zoom with BAFTA winning director, Kenny Glenaan: 9pm
Based on the book by Man Booker prize winning novelist James Kelman, 15-year old Murdo is a talented accordion player, but he has not played a note since his Mum and sister both died. He and his Dad journey from a Scottish island to North Alabama, to visit Uncle John. On the way, Murdo meets Queen Monzee-ay who reveals the power of music to unlock emotion when she invites him to play alongside her. In doing so, she rekindles his love of music and he reconnects with his Dad.
Brim-full of great acting and happy, foot-stomping zydeco music, #DirtRoadtoLafayette is part road movie, part musical adventure, and part hopeful, moving, coming of age drama.
Make a night of it and bring your own themed snacks - cherry cola, potato chips, grits, jambalaya, gumbo, or maybe even Moon Pie ..? Get up and dance, sing, and play anything musical that you can …. even a comb will do.

How it works
The screening takes place on Vimeo. You do not need to download any software and the link and password will be sent to you on the day of the screening.
The live Q&A takes place in the Zoom video conferencing app, which you should install and test at least an hour before the show. Or why not install it now and test it with family or friends?
Zoom can be downloaded for free here: zoom.us/download
If you already have Zoom installed please check that it’s up to date. Check for updates here: zoom.us/updates
For the best experience, use a laptop or desktop computer, and check that the sound is on. Tablets or phones with the Zoom app can be used, but the bigger the screen, the better your experience.
If you're unable to install Zoom you can join in a web browser. We strongly recommend Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. These are both available for free.
We will send you a reminder email 24 hours before the screening.
On the day of the screening we will send an email with joining links and passwords. If you have not received anything by 6pm, firstly check your junk folder, then contact Perth Film Society giving your phone number: email@example.com
About ten minutes before the 7pm screening, click on the Vimeo url and when asked, input the passwords.
