Perth Theatre’s production of Casablanca: The Gin Joint Cut promises to pay lovingly disrespectful homage to one of the greatest classic films of all time!

Written and directed by Morag Fullarton, the show comes with a clutch of glittering reviews from past performances that have taken it from its Scottish roots to London, Amsterdam and Paris:

‘succeeds in evoking the thrilling plot of the original movie while allowing for some superb bursts of humour’ *****The Herald

‘Fullarton has written a hilarious yet hugely reverential homage to Casablanca’ *****The Stage

With some of the most iconic scenes and best lines ever written, Casablanca deserves to be played again. This time it is set a tiny gin joint with three multi-tasking actors playing all the parts in a cleverly constructed and hilarious tribute to the film. The show includes Clare Waugh playing Major Heinrich Strasser, Ilsa Lund, and Pepe the gendarme, Kevin Lennon as Captain Louis Renault, Resistance leader Victor Laszlo, lowly crook Ugarte and Simon Donaldson swap between Richard ‘Rick’ Blaine, a Nazi and a host of colourful characters.

Morag Fullarton said:

“It's always a joy to perform Casablanca: The Gin Joint Cut but it’s a particular pleasure to be presenting the show in Perth’s beautiful Theatre.

The show has been performed everywhere from Peebles to Paris - so audiences can come along and be transported to Morocco 1941 in this "fabulously funny retelling of the Second World War thriller". Here's looking at you Perth!”

In-keeping with the spirit of the show, the press night for Casablanca: The Gin Joint Cut on Saturday 16 March will see invited guests – in black-tie - and theatregoers walking the red carpet into Perth Theatre where they will be greeted with lighting, piano music and props that evoke Rick’s legendary gin joint, plus a Moroccan backdrop photo wall to capture the moment!
