Horsecross Sessions in Greyfriars Bar are proving so popular that the organisers have added new dates to the schedule.

Now held on the first and the third Sunday of the month, the friendly and free Horsecross Sessions led by some of the finest traditional musicians around, are open to all players who would like to join in and for anyone to come along, have a drink and enjoy the music.

Horsecross Sessions are part of Perth Theatre’s Out and About series which sees theatre and music happening in pubs, village halls and community centres across the area while the building is closed for restoration and redevelopment.

Top-class musicians lined up to lead the sessions include Steven Blake, Jim Malcolm, Doris Rougvie, Grant McFarlane, Mhairi Mackinnon, Ross Ainslie, Patsy Reid, Matheu Watson, Laura-Beth Salter and Laura Wilkie.

Andy Shearer, creative director for contemporary music for Horsecross Arts, the creative organisation behind Perth Concert Hall and Perth Theatre who put the sessions together said:

"The session is the beating heart of traditional music, an informal jam where musicians come together to swap tunes and songs and join in on familiar standards. We're lucky enough to be able to bring in some of the folk world's finest players, many of them based in Perthshire, to lead these sessions which is a great attraction for other local musicians. Greyfriars has proved to be an ideally intimate venue for these nights, providing a great buzz for both participants and listeners alike - so much so, that after the first one, Horsecross and Greyfriars instantly decided to make them twice-monthly!"

Horsecross Sessions are free and take place in Greyfriars Bar, South Street, Perth on the first and third Sunday of the month at 7.30pm. For more info click here.
