Perth pianist Alasdair Beatson is teaming up with the Doric String Quartet in February for a weekend of performances in Perth Concert Hall and St John’s Kirk.
One of Scotland’s foremost musicians, Alasdair Beatson is in demand both nationally and internationally as a soloist and chamber music partner. The three-concert exclusive from Friday 17 to Sunday 19 February sees him get together with one of Britain’s most exciting ensembles, for a thrilling musical weekend.
On Friday 17 February in Perth Concert Hall, Alasdair Beatson and the Doric String Quartet will perform three masterworks for piano and string: Elgar’s Piano Quintet in A minor is regarded as one of his finest works, Fauré’s Piano Quintet No 1 in D minor sparkles with Gallic charm and Thomas Adès’s Piano Quintet exploits the combination of piano and strings to the utmost.
The Doric String Quartet performs three great string quartets in St John’s Kirk on Saturday 18 February. Beethoven’s second Razumovsky quartet is an epic musical journey, Mendelssohn’s mature F minor quartet is a rarely performed gem and Haydn’s Opus 64 No 3 string quartet contains limitless musical invention and variety.
The closing concert on Sunday 19 February sees Alasdair Beatson and the Doric String Quartet combine once again to perform music by Mendelssohn, Schumann and Brahms, including Brahms’s symphonic F minor piano quintet.
