We seek to tell great stories which are locally and universally relevant.
Sometimes those stories are specific to our local area and developed in collaboration with our local community: our upcoming coproduction with St. Johnstone will be researched with pundits and fans; our touring show A Six-Inch Layer of Topsoil and the Fact it Rains was created through conversations with the farming community across Perthshire.
In the past four years we have commissioned and produced the work of Scottish and Scottish-based writers Kieran Hurley, Frances Poet, David Harrower, Morna Young, Zinnie Harris, Rona Munro, Oliver Emanuel, James Ley, Sarah MacGilvery, Ros Sydney, Rob Drummond, Martin McCormick, and Will Pickvance.
We support the work of many more writers through development and presentation. Where we can, we will support the exploration and showcasing of new work.
We are currently running a programme for the development of Perthshire writers in collaboration with the Playwright’s Studio Scotland and Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
If you are a local professional writer – regardless of whether you are primarily a playwright, poet or prose-writer – raised or currently living within Perthshire, we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch, and we’ll have a chat.
Our Artistic Director is invested in new writing and reads and sees as much new work as she can, but our capacity as a team is limited.
If you wish to send us a script it is best if you first send us a short synopsis (max 300 words) on what you would like us to read, and a few sentences about you as a writer – where you are based and where you feel you are in your work. We will solicit and read scripts where we feel we can genuinely engage in the possibility of a future relationship with that work or you as a writer. We will prioritise Scotland based writers. We are unable to read unsolicited manuscripts. We will endeavour always to acknowledge receipt of your enquiry.
