The Monday Night Thing presents

Saxophonist Tommy Smith and pianist Brian Kellock are Scotland’s international jazz ambassadors. Acclaimed as 'world class' by Jazz Journal, they are master musicians who spin classic songs into creative gold and as the musical director and featured soloist respectively of the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra’s enthusiastically received In the Spirit of Duke and Rhapsody in Blue Live albums, they bring a special musical relationship to the stage.

Individually they have outstanding musical pedigrees. Smith toured the world with vibraphone virtuoso Gary Burton at eighteen and went on to record for the definitive jazz label, Blue Note. He has since worked with an array of musicians including Chick Corea, Dave Liebman and John Scofield and currently tours internationally with Norwegian bassist and ECM Records stalwart Arild Andersen’s trio. Kellock emerged as a vital keyboard talent with blues singer Tam White’s Dexters before forming his own award-winning trio and going on to accompany top names including saxophonists Stanley Turrentine, Scott Hamilton, and Charlie Rouse and singers Sheila Jordan, Carol Kidd and Liane Carroll.

Together Smith and Kellock present intimate and spontaneous concerts featuring familiar music played with passion and tenderness and delivered with bonhomie.
