We were delighted to put this show together for Celtic Connections in January along with our indefatigable Musical Director, Stuart Nisbet. We’re even happier to be able to restage it in Perth for you as it was a spectacular and emotional celebration of a brilliant artist by some of Scotland’s very best singers and musicians.

The great Texan singer-songwriter Nanci Griffth, who died in August 2021, cherished her own transatlantic connections via her parents’ Scottish and Welsh heritage. She was a trailblazer in directly linking the Celtic tradition with American roots music; uniting these audiences and helping to lay the foundations of what is now a very well-travelled road.

Headliner of our very first Southern Fried back in 2008, Griffith’s literate, emotionally complex songs explored ordinary lives to powerful effect. Seamlessly blending folk, country and vintage rock’n’roll influences, they were often informed by her passionate social and political concerns and include much-loved classics such as Ford Econoline, Gulf Coast Highway, Love At the Five And Dime, Trouble In The Fields, Once In A Very Blue Moon and Outbound Plane.

Produced in association with Celtic Connections.
