Join Red Note and friends again as they play and discuss their latest multi-media new commission - Sub mari - by Martina Corsini and Manuel Figueroa-Bolvarán.

Red Note’s latest commission, Sub mari, was sparked by a supermarket conversation about an avocado!

Debuting in Perth Concert Hall on Thursday 4 November, the collaborative multi-media commission by Manuel Figueroa-Bolvarán and Martina Corsini, took shape following a casual chat between the two which led to a discussion about how avocados have impacted Chile’s water shortage. Manuel is a Chilean composer/double bassist and Martina is Red Note’s Weston-Jerwood Creative Fellow.

The land-management practices caused by the production of food (including avocados) for export have caused a severe scarcity of water in Chile. This, contrasting with a potentially dangerous amount of water here in Scotland, allows the composers to explore the character of water in both places in relation to the environmental crisis.

The performance will blend live music with film, alongside recordings of Fife’s Levenmouth Academy school choir and Chilean singers and instrumentalists.

As the COP26 summit takes place in Glasgow, this powerful and direct work is a clear message for us all. There will also be an opportunity to hear directly from those involved in the project as part of the evening.
