Royal Scottish Geographical Society presents

Lewis Pugh is an endurance swimmer and an ocean advocate, and will receive the RSGS Mungo Park Medal after this talk for his inspiring work.

Over 32 years, Lewis has pioneered swims in the most vulnerable ecosystems on Earth to campaign for their protection. He was the first to swim across the North Pole and, last year, to swim the full length of the English Channel. In 2013 the United Nations appointed him UN Patron of the Oceans.

Lewis has been instrumental in protecting over 2 million km2 of vulnerable ocean - an area equivalent to the size of Western Europe. His dream is to fully protect 30% of the world's oceans by 2030.

Widely regarded as one of the world's most inspiring speakers, Lewis shares his insights on the mindset, teamwork, and leadership skills necessary for any major undertaking. The most crucial success factor, he says, is to have a driving purpose, which for him is to protect our planet's threatened oceans.
