Perth Theatre Heritage Collection presents
Capturing Fashion, Glamour and Prestige (Part I: 1850-1900)
From the crinoline to the bustle, this illustrated talk will trace the rapidly changing silhouette of Victorian fashion. It will also introduce an exciting collection of original garments that have been generously donated to Perth Theatre over the last 40 years by members of the local community.
This extraordinary heritage collection includes beautiful examples of Victorian dress. These gorgeous garments capture the fashionable style and taste of the wearers. They also highlight the remarkable range of skills of the Victorian dressmaker. And their material and construction show the impact of new technologies on clothing style and production.
The talk will be given by Dr Lin Gardner, who recently catalogued this collection and has taught courses in dress and textile histories at the University of Glasgow.
