Haydn: Symphony No 80 in D minor
Mozart: Mass in C minor K427
Anna Dennis, soprano
Lucy Crowe, soprano
Joshua Ellicott, tenor
Adrian Davies, bass
Dunedin Consort
John Butt, conductor
Following the success of their Grammy-nominated Mozart Requiem recording, Dunedin Consort return to the music of Mozart once more to perform his ‘Great’ Mass in C Minor. Scored for a huge double chorus and large orchestra, it was left tantalisingly incomplete at his death, and is performed here with characteristic Dunedin historical insight in a new completion by Clemens Kemme. Soloists Lucy Crowe and Anna Dennis (soprano), Joshua Ellicott(tenor) and Robert Davies (bass) join Dunedin Consort’s exceptional orchestra and chorus for what promises to be a monumental occasion.
‘One of the finest Mozart Requiems of recent years. Butt brings to Mozart the microscopic care and musicological acumen that have made his Bach and Handel recordings so thought-provoking and satisfying.’ Gramophone
