Talkfest Perth Presents
A Single Good Hour (rehearsed reading)
Simon MacCallum

Dundee. A city in the midst of rejuvenation, new buildings are built, hotels, museums and restaurants spring up and the city's image is remoulded, given a fresh gloss.

The West is a decaying old school pub, clinging on against the advance of gentrification. Elaine is a barmaid in The West with a family connection embedded into the walls of a pub on the brink. As the bulldozers move in, Elaine and her brother decide to risk everything in a desperate effort to break free from the story they are trapped in.

A fascinating opportunity to hear a new script in development by Dundee playwright Simon MacCallum. Be among the first to hear this brand new play. The play will be directed by Cross Trust Young Director Award recipient Shilpa T-Hyland and performed script-in-hand by professional actors.

Simon MacCallum has written several stage plays including Shadow Boxing (nominated for the Meyer Whitworth award) and Time Watching (short-listed for the Verity Bargate award). Other theatre work includes Balgay Hill, which was performed at Dundee Rep and three plays for A Play, a Pie and A Pint. He has also written four commissioned plays for Birds of Paradise Theatre Company. For Radio 4 Simon has had two plays produced The Last Ten (2005), Velvet Love (2007) and for BBC Scotland Lochpool Nights (2009).
