‘Perth’s Threshold artspace shows no signs of watering down its bold remit in programming stunning and inspiring artwork’ Scotland on Sunday
At the heart of Perth Concert Hall and Perth Theatre is our Threshold artspace – one of Scotland’s leading non-conventional galleries for contemporary art. The curated solo or group exhibitions at the artspace, often feature exclusive public commissions and limited editions of acclaimed international and local artists which Horsecross initiates and produces on a regular basis. What is more we also actively acquire works for our unique Horsecross collection of contemporary art. Selected works from our collection are highlighted in our specially designed journal for critical writing.
Threshold artspace covers a number of project ‘rooms’ available for artists’ interventions including an entrance box for interactive soundscapes; a ‘canvas’ of 22 flat screens dominating the artspace for multi-channel video art installations; an interactive playground for art games and live internet art; a trail of sound boxes and sensors embedded in the floor and ceiling; an audio visual treat in the public toilets; copper-clad roof for light artists; as well as a wealth of wall space for two-dimentional work. All key Threshold artspace locations are linked together by ‘intelligent’ software which allows artworks to be displayed through curated exhibitions and experienced up to 24 hours a day throughout the year.
Threshold artspace is home to Scotland’s only permanent collection of contemporary art of its kind. With more than 70 works commissioned and acquired by Horsecross since 2005, the collection is still growing. It features works by Alisa Andrasek, Fernando Arias, Asikainen+Macedo, Ergin Cavusoglu, Claude Closky, Vuk Cosic, Susan Collins, Brody Condon, Dalziel+Sculllion, Jason Dee, Alec Finlay, Clive Gillman, Su Grierson, Izabella Gustowska, Beverley Hood, Joanna Kane, Rob Kennedy, Igor Krenz, Katja Loher, Christina McPhee, Nils Messeke, Tom Moody, Takeshi Murata, Prema Murthy, Dan Perjovschi, Lala Rascic, Rafael Rozendaal, Janek Schaefer, Valentin Stefanoff, Thomson & Craighead, Kosta Tonev, Mare Tralla, Julita Wojcik and others.
