The show goes on while Perth Theatre is closed for restoration and redevelopment with Perth Concert Hall stepping in to present much of Horsecross Arts’ drama offering in the new season.

Sell a Door Theatre’s production of Sunset Song in September was the first to use the newly constructed proscenium arch on the Perth Concert Hall stage. As well as introducing an intimate theatre environment and focusing the audience’s eyes on the action, the creation of the arch allows the use of fly scenery, essential to bigger theatre productions such as this year’s traditional family pantomime Sleeping Beauty.

Four inspirational women share the best and worst stories that come from being blessed with XX chromosomes in Whingeing Women in Perth Concert Hall on Tuesday 14 October. Grumpy Old Women meets The Vagina Monologues in this hilarious new production starring Gail Porter, perfect for a girls’ night out.

In a continuation of Perth Theatre’s Out and About programme, the Salutation Hotel hosts Lesley Hart’s The Fundraiser in November. Directed by Robert Jack and designed by Perth Theatre’s associate director for theatre, Kenny Miller, The Fundraiser follows the mixed fortunes of Perthshire girl Clementina Baxter as she locks horns with her celebrity mother in a fundraising showdown to end all showdowns!

And, once again, Christmas is all wrapped up as Horsecross Arts presents the finest panto in the land in Perth Concert Hall! This year’s rollercoaster of a family panto Sleeping Beauty is written by Alan McHugh, directed and designed by Kenny Miller and brings back Perth panto treasure in the form of dame Barrie Hunter.

Kenny Miller, associate director for theatre at Horsecross Arts said:

“We are delighted to present another eclectic season in different venues whilst our beautiful theatre is undergoing its transformation. We strive to bring audiences the best in Scottish theatre and to build on our commitment to new writing. In particular, we look forward to Lesley Hart’s brilliant new play The Fundraiser and, proud of our reputation for producing the best panto in the land, we welcome back Alan McHugh who has penned another Christmas cracker in Sleeping Beauty, which we look forward to seeing under the newly created proscenium arch in Perth Concert Hall.”
