On Monday 13 and Tuesday 14 October, Horsecross Arts welcomes Luminate: Scotland’s creative ageing festival.

Throughout the day on Monday, adults over sixty will be taking part in a range of workshops including theatre, music, dance and visual art in Perth Concert Hall and in the community.

Inspired by the work of Henri Matisse, artist Martine Foltier Pugh is hosting a collage workshop with residents of Strathtay House.

In his late sixties, when ill health first prevented Matisse from painting, he began to cut into painted paper with scissors to make drafts for a number of commissions. In time, Matisse chose cut-outs over painting: he had invented a new medium.*

From readily available material like old magazines, newspapers, cards, books, flyers and small throwaways the residents will explore the creative possibilities of paper collage producing artworks to reflect their own interests and favourite themes.

Their works will then be exhibited alongside Martine’s new commissions for Horsecross Arts as part of the Old is the New Young exhibition which opens in Perth Concert Hall’s Threshold artspace on Tuesday 14 October.

The exhibition and workshops form part of Luminate: Scotland’s creative ageing festival, which takes place all over the country from 1 – 31 October, celebrating creativity, sharing stories and exploring what ageing means to all of us. For more information, visit www.luminatescotland.org
