Perth Concert Hall’s new Sep-Dec programme serves up a super-sized selection of concerts, events, activities and more to keep the family entertained this autumn!

Everyone is invited to join Perth Concert Hall’s 10th Anniversary celebrations over two packed weekends in September. Free drop in workshops for all ages will give a flavour of a range of artforms on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September. Local groups will be performing throughout the weekend which will also feature a hog roast and family ceilidh the Horsecross Hoolie. Global trumpeting superstar Alison Balsom is joined by the BBC SSO for a sparkling concert on Friday 18 September. Talented local musicians Ross Ainslie and Patsy Reid gather the cream of Scottish contemporary folk talent for a specially commissioned 10th Anniversary concert Made in Perthshire on Saturday 19 September.

Elsewhere in the programme, Janis Joplin: Full Tilt kicks off its Scottish tour in Perth Concert Hall on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 September. Part music show, part drama; this tribute to the greatest singer of her generation is proving a smash hit at this year’s Edinburgh Festival. Rapture Theatre presents The Last Yankee, one of Arthur Miller’s last great plays in Perth Concert Hall’s Norie-Miller Studio on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 October, marking the centenary of the birth of this legendary writer.

Die Walküre rides into Perth Concert Hall on Sunday 6 September. This semi-staged production from Berwick Festival Opera featuring NYOS and Hebrides Ensemble is the perfect entree into Wagner’s world of myth and magic. Exclusive music series Perth Piano Sundays, Lunchtime Concerts and the Perth Concert Series continue to deliver classical treats throughout the season. Nicola Benedetti and Friends weekend residency from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 October is a sure-fire recipe for success!

The musical menu is spilling over with Scottish specialities including Bill Wells and Aidan Moffat in Perth Concert Hall’s Norie-Miller Studio on Wednesday 14 October, Red Pine Timber Co. is back by popular demand for a standing Perth Concert Hall gig on Friday 16 October and indie icons Idlewild perform on Tuesday 24 November. Celebrated songwriters Richard Thompson and Billy Bragg fly the flag for England on Wed 2 September and Wed 2 December respectively. The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra reaches across the Atlantic to celebrate the music of Glenn Miller on Sunday 15 November.

Families will love tyrannosauric treat Dinosaur Zoo in Perth Concert Hall from Monday 14 to Wednesday 16 September.TV presenter and adventurer Steve Backshall’s Wild World in Perth Concert Hall on Monday 19 October will appeal to wildlife enthusiasts from eight to eighty. Hairy Maclary’s Cat Tales will charm and entertain on Thursday 22 October.

The season is scattered with a mix of contemporary art exhibitions, films, talks, events; a return to stand-up comedy from Tim Vine on Wednesday 14 October and a mix of join-in activities for all ages.

And the icing on the cake is Perth’s traditional family panto Beauty and the Beast in Perth Concert Hall from Saturday 12 to Saturday 26 December. Written by Alan McHugh, directed by Ian Grieve, Scotland’s favourite dame, Barrie Hunter leads a cast that includes some familiar local faces for this Fair City festive tradition.
