Members of Blow & Blast wind group will present two “pop-up” performances in Perth Concert Hall for National Chamber Music Day on Saturday 15 September.

The two free performances in Perth Concert Hall foyer will take place at 1.30pm and 3.30pm and will be open to all.  Each programme will consist of a varied assortment of light classical and traditional pieces.

Part of Horsecross Arts Creative Learning programme, the regular Blow & Blast workshops in Perth Concert Hall’s Norie-Miller Studio help adult learners and returners develop the skills required for effective small ensemble playing. Anyone aged 18 and over at beginner/intermediate level on woodwind or wind instruments can join the Blow & Blast workshops and band.

As well as these join-in sessions, Perth Concert Hall programmes a comprehensive range of chamber music throughout the year. This season’s Lunchtime Concerts series features Mozart and Brahms Clarinet Quintets by Scottish Ensemble, the Vision String Quartet performing works by Ligeti, Schubert and Ravel, a Scottish debut for BBC New Generation artists Quatuor Arod and trios by Beethoven and Zemlinsky for cello, clarinet and piano played by members of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Perth Chamber Music Society presents the Maxwell String Quartet in Perth Theatre’s Joan Knight Studio and Scottish Ensemble return to St John’s Kirk for their much-loved advent concert.

Blow & Blast tutor Trona Melville-Mason said:

“As September’s Blow & Blast workshops in Perth Concert Hall coincide with National Chamber Music day, it seems only appropriate that the infectious enthusiasm of these adult amateurs should be recognised as part of this celebration. We find that, as a consequence of participating in groups themselves, players develop a greater appreciation of chamber music and often become regular supporters of concerts at their local venues and music societies.”

Hosted by Enterprise Music Scotland, National Chamber Music Day celebrates chamber music throughout Scotland by putting on free, impromptu concerts for members of the public across the country.
