From top traditional tunes to classical virtuosity and home-grown comedy, the new Perth Concert Hall winter/spring brochure celebrates a wealth of local talent, as well as welcoming top national and international names.
Perthshire musicians Ross Ainslie and Patsy Reid will reunite with fellow top Scottish performers including Fraser Anderson and Lisa Rigby for a rerun of Made in Perthshire, showcasing their stellar musicianship through traditional and contemporary pieces with a local flavour. Originally commissioned for Perth Concert Hall’s 10th anniversary, Made in Perthshire makes a second and last appearance in Perth before travelling to Glasgow for a performance at Celtic Connections. Perth boy turned international piano sensation, Alasdair Beatson teams up with the Doric String Quartet for a thrilling weekend of music including Fauré, Brahms and Elgar. The Fair City’s own award-winning comedian, Bruce Fummey, charts The Rise of the Ginger in his History of Scotland Part 3.
From Blairgowrie to Birnam, rural communities across Perthshire host Perth Theatre and Theatre by the Lake, Keswick’s tour of And Then Come the Nightjars. A vet and a cattle farmer’s blossoming friendship is put to the test when they face the chaos of Foot and Mouth in this, by turns heart-breaking and hilarious, requiem to rural life. Popular music series with a traditional flavour, Celtic Sessions features ultimate party band Red Hot Chilli Pipers, Mànran and Elephant Sessions. Perth Concert Hall is the only Scottish venue on Marc Almond’s 60th birthday tour. The world’s finest pianists perform Perth Piano Sundays, in a programme that includes concerts by Lars Vogt, Sophie Pacini and Steven Osborne as well as a stunning jazz-themed performance by The David Patrick Tentet. Lunchtime Concerts presents an exciting mix of new and established musicians. Scottish Opera returns with a concert performance of Rossini’s La Scala di Seta. Scottish Chamber Orchestra’s Stan and Mabel is the perfect family-friendly introduction to classical music for children aged four to eight. Brendan Cole brings new dance spectacular All Night Long to Perth Concert Hall. Award-winning comedian and actor Omid Djalili is Schmuck for a Night. Earth’s funniest footwear, the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre Do Shakespeare in a series of songs, sketches, songs and violence.
Adults can join in RSNO Community Orchestra, Horsecross Voices, Perth Theatre Discoveries and Blow and Blast. Little Stars: Creative Play are fun-filled workshops for under 5s. Perth Theatre alumni including Colin McCredie present a series of Masterclasses for young people. Art lovers can join Horsecross Arts creative director for contemporary art, Iliyana Nedkova for Coffee, Croissant and Art guided tours of latest exhibition Repertoire and enjoy performances and commissions as 3 Generations of Women Artists Perform for International Women’s Day.
