Emerging Perth “underground” pop act Parliamo will play an eagerly anticipated hometown gig in Perth Theatre this December.

The standing show in Perth Theatre’s Joan Knight Studio on Saturday 11 December rounds off a year of real achievement for the band who have already been hailed as one of Scotland’s most exciting young prospects.

Commenting on the newly announced gig which goes on sale on Wednesday 10 November, Andy Shearer, creative director for contemporary music for Perth Concert Hall and Perth Theatre said:

“There hasn’t been a buzz like this about a Perthshire band since the 80’s. They have the necessary infrastructure in terms of management, agency, record label, PR and so on in place; they’ve been getting lots of high-profile radio plays and accolades from industry insiders and building a fanbase on the back of their great live shows. The release of their debut record this week will move things up a level and proves beyond doubt that they’ve got the most important ingredient of all - really great songs. They speak very much for their generation but there’s also much to love in their sound for fans of 80’s and 90’s indie as they have a real baggy swagger and a great irreverent attitude."

With a heady live reputation preceding them, the band’s self-proclaimed brand of "underground pop" is already turning a lot of heads within the music industry.

Drawing from a plethora of influences from The Avalanches and Massive Attack to Super Furry Animals and The Beta Band, Parliamo bring together witty social commentary with a distinctive songwriting approach very much their own.

The in-your-face sound of the band and the often darkly humorous nature of the lyrics stand in stark contrast with some of the subject matter, echoing the band’s propensity for laughing in lieu of crying. In a world of such turmoil and uncertainty, their new debut EP The Parliamo Manifesto released on Thursday 11 November aims to reconcile people with positivity through vibrant, energetic music, whilst providing a relatable commentary on the modern world and the inner workings of the minds of young people.

Parliamo are: Jack Dailly (vocals), Finn Freeburn Morrison (guitar), Fraser Nicholson (bass), Mairi Sutherland (guitar, keys, vocals), Calum Simpson (guitar) and Andrew Haxton (drums).

Tickets for Parliamo in Perth Theatre’s Joan Knight Studio on Saturday 11 December go on sale on Wednesday 10 November. For tickets and info click here, or call or visit the Perth Theatre Box Office between 10am and 4pm Monday to Friday.
