Coinciding with UK Older People’s Day on Thursday 1 October, Horsecross Arts is presenting a series of dance classes specifically created for the over fifties.

The Horsecross Seniors Margaret Morris Movement 50+ Club, in partnership with Scotland’s Creative Ageing Festival; Luminate and supported by the International Association of Margaret Morris Movement and Moray House School of Education, University of Edinburgh takes place over three Tuesday evenings in October.

Open to all over-fifties, the £5 sessions are on Tuesday 13, 20 and 27 October from 6 – 7pm in Perth Concert Hall’s Norie-Miller Studio.

Created by modern dance pioneer, Margaret Morris (1891-1980), Margaret Morris Movement believes that anyone who wants to dance can! No previous dance experience is required for the classes with professionally-qualified tutor Sara Lockwood which will focus on posture, breathing, poise, footwork and more with the creativity and inspiration of Margaret Morris.

The musical talents of the older generation will also be on show in Tayside Silver Strummers in Perth Concert Hall on Saturday 10 October. As part of Luminate, the massed ukuleles of the combined Perth and Dundee Universities of the Third Age will entertain the whole family in a joyous and relaxed concert.

Adults aged 18+ who would like to get together with like-minded individuals for fun and friendly music-making can go along one of Horsecross Arts’ Join In workshops in Perth Concert Hall’s Norie-Miller Studio and Tilt Room. These include informal singing group Horsecross Voices which takes place weekly on Wednesday evenings, RSNO Community Orchestra for players of any instrument from Grade 1 to Grade 4 standard and Blow and Blast workshops offering easy and intermediate-level ensemble playing for adult learners/returners on wind instruments.

Noëlle Cobden, head of creative learning for Horsecross Arts, the creative organisation behind Perth Concert Hall and Perth Theatre said:

“We are delighted to work with Luminate to celebrate the achievements and potential of older people. We have many loyal audience members who come along to concerts and events in Perth Concert Hall who we feel will enjoy the opportunity to take part in the Margaret Morris Movement 50+ Club or one of our many other Join In activities. Why sit and watch, when you can be a part of the action?!”
