An international cast of performers takes to the stage of Perth Concert Hall this month for the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s concert production of Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito.

Senior students from Brazil, Iceland, Poland and the UK, attending the world famous Alexander Gibson Opera School will perform Mozart’s final Italian opera with full chorus and orchestra in Perth Concert Hall on Tuesday 28 January.

Full of haunting and magical music, La Clemenza di Tito contains music comparable to anything else Mozart ever wrote, such as the wonderful arias with basset horn obbligato ‘Non Piu di Fiori’ and ‘Parto, Parto’.

The opera is dominated by thwarted love, political machination, treachery and betrayal, noble friendship and, above all, the presence of a heroic, magnanimous ruler. Mozart’s music is sublime, economical and worthy of his final stage composition, heart wrenching in its simplicity and beauty, expressing power and restraint by turn.

Composed for the Coronation celebrations of the new Emperor of Bohemia, La Clemenza di Titowas famously described by Mozart as his ‘true opera’ due to its noble subject and its rich, varied music. Mozart received the commission for Tito when he was already underway with The Magic Flute.

Magnus Linklater, Chairman of Horsecross Arts, said:

“This will be a gripping concert and I very much look forward to the performance at Perth Concert Hall on 28 January. It is an exhilarating score and the audience will leave feeling wonderfully drained and exhilarated. This is going to be a memorable evening for sure.”

John Wallace, Principal of the Royal Conservatoire, added:

“La Clemenza di Tito is Mozart at his best and I am delighted to be bringing this concert production to Perth Concert Hall where we have been welcomed by great audiences. I look forward to developing this relationship further.”
