Schubert: Quartet in A minor 'Rosamunde'
Schubert's last three quartets are all masterpieces. The 'Rosamunde' Quartet has a distinctly melancholy air with a wide emotional range from the uneasy opening movement, through the charming set of variations and the nervy, unstable scherzo to the poised but still cautious finale. It is preceded by the fiery and energetic Quartettsatz.
