Horsecross Arts Creative Learning Programme
Our award winning Horsecross Arts creative learning team runs arts activities at Perth Theatre and Perth Concert Hall and in schools and communities. In the past four years our creative learning team has gained an enviable reputation for placing community involvement at the heart of everything we do. Over 50,000 community participants have benefited from our programme of events - using the arts we’ve improved life chances and health and wellbeing, integrated communities, provided life changing experiences, opened doors to achievement. We’ve made a huge difference to so many people’s lives. It’s a great journey and we have a lot of fun along the way!
We are expert at developing collaborative and imaginative creative partnerships between schools, community partners and artists. Our venues provide a safe and stimulating environment for people of all ages and abilities and from all walks of life to express themselves freely and participate in rewarding and memorable activities and experiences.
Threshold artspace is the only gallery for contemporary art in Scotland which is visited by more than 100,000 people a year. Events and exhibitions at the Threshold artspace are free for anyone to enjoy. We have on site talks, tours and we run artist-led community projects annually encouraging community involvement in the production, presentation and collection of new contemporary art.

Here are some examples of projects we run that you can come along to:
- Home & Away (Jan - Nov 2010) - an adventurous series of community based residencies and commissions involving Scottish and international artists in music, drama and contemporary visual art. The projects are timed to coincide with an exceptional year in Perth’s history - the 800th anniversary of the founding of the city of Perth in 2010 and are part of a wider, year-long partnership project planned to achieve the biggest coming together of communities in Perthshire in living memory. Look out for Samaagam in March, Carnival in September and Lightnight in November.
- Horsecross Voices - a non-performing drop-in community choir where singers of all levels are welcome. Music reading isn't necessary and participants can attend as many or as little sessions as they like. Each session is based on a different genre of music. Participants learn a wide variety of styles often with the help of specialists in different musical fields. Horsecross Voices is extremely popular with almost 50 participants attending weekly.
- Horsecross Players - an inclusive group that actively aims to include people from all backgrounds, including those with additional support needs and no experience of the theatre. Horsecross Players is fully involved in the life of the theatre with backstage tours, director's talks, attending productions, visits to other theatres, drama and stagecraft workshops.
- Music and Drama Collective (Horsecross and Drake Music Scotland) is a music and drama group for adults with learning and physical disabilities.
- In the Mood - an opportunity for older people to come together to share music, poetry and stories as well as enjoy some informal entertainment on a monthly basis. We have links with residential care homes and members of the public are also welcome to attend.
