Exhibition Guide

Horsecross is delighted to welcome back Perthshire Visual Arts Forum (PVAF) – the local group of professional visual artists who we have been collaborating with since the Threshold artspace began in 2005.

It was with Remix, a PVAF exhibition, that the new extension of the artspace to Redrooms, Perth Theatre was launched in May 2008. A year later, Remix is followed by Scene Without Scene – a two part exhibition featuring solo statements by selected PVAF artists. The title Scene Without Scene references the theatrical context of the new home of the Threshold artspace.

Liz Adamson of Polarcap was invited to select the work for the first instalment of this PVAF exhibition. In selecting existing works by nine of the artists Adamson has endeavoured to show the diversity and range of work produced by members of PVAF while maintaining a coherent unravelling of this throughout the exhibition space, a ‘theme without theme’, in fact.

The nine solo statements are complimented by Onscreen – a slide show of digital images representing work by other PVAF members. Onscreen is running on a loop throughout the exhibition on a specially mounted flat screen at the artspace. It is an opportunity to grasp the breadth and richness of work by the PVAF artists at our doorstep.

All 32 works featured in Scene Without Scene are available to purchase as part of Horsecross new initiative for collectable contemporary art COLLECT + SUPPORT

Perthshire Visual Arts Forum (PVAF) was established in 2005 as an artist led group that  stimulates and networks local career oriented artists with other national and international artists providing inspiration, information and opportunities.

Polarcap was founded by artists Graeme Todd and Liz Adamson in 2007 to bring high quality contemporary art to as wide an audience as possible with particular concerns for venues out with the city environs, representing emerging, local, national and international artists.  Polarcap enables new connections and contexts for artists working in different media and at different stages of their careers, whilst providing a platform for artists’ discussion and creative exchange.

Scene Without Scene is produced by the artists and Horsecross for Threshold artspace in partnership with Perthshire Visual Arts Forum and Polarcap.
