Perth Youth Theatre members 'toast' the new season

PYT toast new seasonHorsecross Arts unveiled its summer programme of events in Perth Concert Hall and Perth Theatre with a little help from a group from Perth Youth Theatre (PYT).

Members of PYT Beginners who are currently working on their production Toast and All Things Good got a flavour of the new May-Aug brochure which will serve up a mouth-watering selection of activities and performances over the coming months.

The 170 members of Perth Youth Theatre will be taking over Perth Theatre in June for their annual festival showcasing their performing, writing and directing talents.

The month-long Perth Youth Theatre Festival is just one of several events Horsecross Arts has planned for this year where the people of Perth can get involved.

Local choirs, dance and drama groups, brass players and budding costume makers and musicians are invited to take part in Carnival; the joint party Horsecross Arts is throwing in September in celebration of Perth 800 and to mark Perth Concert Hall's fifth birthday.

A series of Carnival-themed workshops for adults and kids is planned for July to stir up the street party spirit in the run up to this spectacular event.

The launch of Horsecross Glee is a chance for wannabe performers between the age of 13 and 18 to develop their song and dance skills with professional coaches.  Adults can check out what goes on behind the scenes and develop their own acting skills in the Horsecross Players drama group

And that's just for starters!  The brochure also contains the usual tempting mix of events in the two Fair City venues, dishing up a tasty menu of music, drama, exhibitions, contemporary art, comedy, dance and much much more.

The third annual Southern Fried Festival of American roots music takes place at the end of July.  Line-up details are still to be revealed, but it promises to build on the massive success of last year's event.

The ever-popular Steve Steinman returns to the Perth Concert Hall stage in May with Bat the Symphony a follow-up to his sell out Vampires Rock.  Pink Floyd tribute act Mac Floyd will perform a varied mix of classics from the 70's rock legends in Perth Theatre in August.

Perthshire fiddler Patsy Reid combines her love of traditional and classical music to breathtaking effect.  Patsy is joined by an exceptional line-up of musicians for Bridging the Gap in Perth Concert Hall in May.  Newfangled Folk in Perth Theatre Redrooms in May will see three of Scotland's brightest emerging songwriters Kim Edgar, David Ferrard and Yvonne Lyon perform together in an intriguing collaboration.

And sneaking a peek into September and October, further musical treats in store include the return of the Lady Boys of Bangkok, the stage debut of young Celtic big band The Gordon Duncan Experience in A National Treasure IV - the annual tribute to the influential Perthshire piper - and the fourth annual Schubertiad festival.

Perth Concert Hall's classical programme has collected a clutch of five star reviews so far this year and the quality keeps on coming with Llŷr Williams continuing his epic journey through Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas.

Alasdair Beatson rounds off his residency in Perth Concert Hall with a concert with long time friends and partners The Doric Quartet.  Fans of both won't have long to wait before they see them perform in the Fair City again as they return in October for Perth Concert Hall's Schubertiad.

Mum's the Word washes the dirty laundry of motherhood in Perth Theatre at the end of April.  Fresh from her Pop Star to Opera Star success Bernie Nolan heads an all-star cast in this new version of the acclaimed comedy musical.

Highland Theatre Company presents Whisky Kisses in Perth Theatre in May.   Look forward to great songs, great music and great laughs as two international whisky collectors converge on a remote Scottish island to compete for fabled malt whisky - The Glenigma.

The Fair City is becoming a favourite stop on the comedy circuit and the new season's brochure continues this trend with a collection of top comedians on the bill at Perth Concert Hall and Perth Theatre.  As well as the May-Aug brochure cover star Reginald D. Hunter; Paul Merton, Katy Brand, Fred Macaulay, Jimmy Carr and Hardeep Singh Kohli are all waiting in the wings to entertain us this summer.

Perth Festival of the Arts takes place in May welcoming acts as diverse and exciting as Don McLean, English Touring Opera, Rich Hall , Skerryvore, The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, Sharleen Spiteri, Gyles Brandreth and many more to the Perth Concert Hall and Perth Theatre stages.

And it's never too early to plan a panto trip.  With tickets now on sale for Perth Theatre's production of family favourite Aladdin, it's time to brush up on your boos and hisses for this year's magic carpet ride into adventure.
