Perth Theatre has been awarded a Critics' Award for Theatre in Scotland in the Best Technical Presentation category for its production of Jane Eyre.
Praising the team behind the award, Robert Dawson-Scott, theatre critic for The Times and CATS panel member said:
"For sheer controlled discipline on a conventional stage, managing a complex two-tier set, aerial work, dance work, wandering musicians and the most convincing collapsing set I can remember, when Rochester's Gothic pile at Thornfield Hall burns down, Perth Theatre's back stage team did a brilliant job."
Jane Spiers, chief executive of Horsecross Arts, the creative organisation behind Perth Theatre and Perth Concert Hall said:
"We are delighted that the theatre has won a Critics Award for Best Technical Presentation especially against strong competition from fellow nominees the National Theatre of Scotland, and Dundee Rep. It is a tribute to our creative director, Ian Grieve and, of course, to the high standards and professionalism of the Perth Theatre technical team who bring their expertise to bear daily in delivering excellence at this busy venue. As Perth Theatre prepares to launch its 75th season of plays our growing audiences will also be delighted to hear that the shows they have been enjoying have again been recognised by the critics."
The CATS winners were revealed at a glittering ceremony on 13 June at Edinburgh Festival Theatre hosted by special guests Jonathan Mills, director of the Edinburgh International Festival, and much-loved actress and comedienne Karen Dunbar.
Now in its eighth year and firmly established as a highlight in the theatrical calendar, the event was attended by some of the leading figures in Scottish theatre, as well as enthusiastic members of the public who joined in the celebrations.
Previous Perth Theatre CATS successes are for Best Male Performance by Liam Brennan in Tales from Hollywood in 2006 and Sandy Grierson in the same category in 2007 for Fergus Lamont.
