Acclaimed comic opera company Opera della Luna returns to UK theatres in spring 2010 with its ever-popular production of Gilbert & Sullivan's HMS Pinafore - docking in Perth Theatre on 23 and 24 April.
"I can't wait to see what this inspired company will do with Gilbert and Sullivan next." - Manchester Evening News
Opera della Luna have earned themselves a matchless reputation for their productions of Gilbert & Sullivan with recent sell-out productions of The Mikado and The Sorcerer. Packed to the brim with toe-tapping tunes, in true Opera della Luna style, eight multi-talented singer/actors become crew, chorus and principals in a brilliantly fast and hilarious production of this famous comic opera.
The story takes place aboard the British ship HMS Pinafore. The captain's daughter, Josephine, is in love with a lower-class sailor, Ralph Rackstraw, although her father wants her to marry Sir Joseph Porter, the First Lord of the Admiralty. An evening of fun and merriment ensues as the performers first build the ship, then set about telling the well-loved story.
Opera della Luna is the UK's finest comic opera company, now celebrating 15 years of acclaimed productions of Gilbert and Sullivan, Offenbach and Johann Strauss touring to theatres all over the UK. Their recent production of Die Fledermaus played to sell-out houses and gained rave reviews.
"Ensemble playing at its best" - Evening Standard
As ever, Jeff Clarke's stylish direction updates and adds new twists to a well-loved story in this fun and unstuffy production. Design is by Graham Wynne, of BBC's Changing Rooms fame. Graham also has a string of theatrical design credits to his name. The cast features acclaimed Gilbert & Sullivan patter song performer Simon Butteriss in the role of Sir Joseph Porter.
In summer 2010 Opera della Luna will perform for the first time at the Gettysburg Festival in the USA, showcasing the finest Gilbert & Sullivan productions from the UK.
