Fred Macaulay is coming out of the studio and on the road with a new show for 2010!
The famous son of the Fair City is coming to Perth Theatre on Thursday 13 May as part of a few select tour dates in Scotland.
Best known for his popular morning show on BBC's Radio Scotland, as well as a string of TV credits, Fred is undoubtedly one of the most famous faces of Scottish comedy. Yet his on screen reputation and on air witticisms are the product of years of experience on the live circuit.
Despite his TV and radio commitments Fred has never lost his ability - or his desire - to play in front of a live audience. Fred is a huge hit on the UK comedy scene, remaining a firm sell-out festival favourite from the Edinburgh Fringe, the Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival and all the way around the world to Melbourne's top comedy clubs.
Fred's brand of contemporary observations and caustic sarcasm are loved by millions. Alongside his morning radio show, Fred also anchors I Guess That's Why They Call It The News (BBC Radio 4) and has had numerous TV appearances - from They Think It's All Over (BBC1) and Have I Got News For You (BBC2) to his own series Life According to Fred (BBC1 Scotland) and McCoist and MacAulay (BBC1). Despite such familiarity, audiences are constantly surprised by Fred's innate ability to talk on any subject and weave rich comic tapestries from the most unlikely of yarns.
Fred not only raises the bar above and beyond his audiences expectations, but also gives back, tackling numerous charity challenges. Most recently, Fred could be seen undertaking a grueling, three day kayak trip up the Caledonian Canal for Sport Relief with TV presenter Dougie Vipond. Up a Long Creek (BBC Scotland) will be broadcast in March. Speaking before the challenge Fred added: "This will certainly be one of my greatest challenges yet! Let's just hope we don't end up the creek without a paddle!"
Firmly disproving the myth that accountants are a humourless bunch, this former number-cruncher has a calculated wit - always intelligent, but never overly taxing. Irrespective of whether an audience is divided between young and old, alternative or mainstream, Fred's broad appeal always adds up to a side-splitting night out.
