Fiddlers Bid storm into Perth

The ‘musical tornado' that is Fiddlers Bid is set to hit Perth Concert Hall this April when the internationally celebrated and award-winning fiddle group takes to the Fair City stage.

An amazing live act, their music is created through a distinctive bond of seven formidable musicians fronted by four of Shetland's finest fiddlers - Chris Stout, Kevin Henderson, Andrew Gifford and Maurice Henderson. Fiddlers Bid also boasts Scotland's most dynamic clarsach player, Catriona McKay and a superb rhythm section.

The acclaimed exponents of Shetland's famous fiddle tradition are playing Perth as part of Horsecross Arts Home and Away series where top acts from home and abroad come together in celebration of shared passion for music with a traditional flavour.  At the gig on 9 April, they will be joined for a one-off double bill by special guests Koshka, fronted by virtuosic Russian fiddlers Oleg Pomonarev and Lev Atlas.  Along with acoustic guitarist Nigel Clark, Koshka bring their awesome technical ability to bear on a vast breadth of styles embracing world, traditional and jazz.

The Fiddlers Bid tour, their biggest yet in terms of a run of dates, has been scheduled to promote their latest album All Dressed In Yellow which has earned them 5-star reviews across the board scooping Album of the Year at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards and gaining the Instrumental Album of the Year award at the 2010 Spiral Earth Awards.

Chris Stout from the band, which next year celebrates its 20th anniversary said:

"We're delighted to be out on tour following the success of our album.  We are really looking forward to playing in Perth Concert Hall.  It's a stunning venue and it will be the first time we have performed there as a group.  We formed the band when we were at school and next year will mark twenty years of Fiddlers Bid.  We all work on separate projects for much of the time, so getting together to make music is still fun for us and we hope this shines through in our performances."

Perth Concert Hall is the first concert hall to be named Venue of the Year in the Scots Trad Music Awards.

Kids go free at the Fiddlers Bid and Koshka Home and Away gig.  Tickets are available from Horsecross Box Office on 01738 621 031, click here.
