The Gordon Duncan Memorial Trust presents
A National Treasure III:
A Celebration of The Music
Of Gordon Duncan
Sat 26 Sep: 7.30pm | Perth Concert Hall
Top traditional musicians from Scotland and beyond will come together in Perth Concert Hall on 26 September for the third annual Gordon Duncan Memorial Concert - A National Treasure III.
This year's line up features special guests Karen Matheson of Capercaillie and celebrated singer and guitarist Kris Drever who has stepped in as a last minute replacement for Andy M Stewart. One of the hottest properties on the folk scene not just solo but with LAU, who are sweeping all before them, Kris's Dad Ivan played in Wolfstone with Gordon Duncan for many years.
The brilliant young Treacherous Orchestra will be the house band, with four of their members - bassist Duncan Lyall, fiddlers Adam Sutherland and Innes Watson and flautist Kevin O'Neill - premiering pieces specially commissioned by the Gordon Duncan Memorial Trust. These Tunes For Gordon reflect one of the Trust's stated aims to "encourage the attainment of high standards of performance and innovative composition in relation to all forms of traditional music". It is hoped that Gordon's son Gordon will guest with the Treacherous Orchestra on a couple of tracks.
Treacherous Orchestra has also signed up to play Hogmanay at Perth Concert Hall - the reigning Venue of the Year at the Scottish Traditional Music Awards.
Other acts performing in honour of the late Pitlochry piper and to raise funds for the Trust set up in his name will be The Vale of Atholl Pipe Band, incendiary Irish piping duo John McSherry and Francis McIlduff; Edelmiro Fernandez - the Galician Gordon Duncan, Ex-Shooglenifty mandolinist Iain MacLeod and Gordon's nephew Alex Duncan.
Co-musical director for A National Treasure III, Ross Ainslie said:"The concert is very special to me and everyone involved as it gives us a day to celebrate, remember and play some of the music that Gordon made, I am very much looking forward to this year's event."
