Pre-festival talks set mood for third UK Schubertiad

Kicking off on Monday 14 September, Horsecross creative director for classical music, Svend Brown, will set the scene for the third UK Schubertiad with ‘An hour with...' a series of discussions about some of the main works featured.

Schubertiad 09, which takes place from Fri 9 to Sun 11 October in Perth Concert Hall, is set to be the best yet with a return to the spirit of Schubert's own playful, intimate musical gatherings.

The UK's only annual Schubert festival, Schubertiad 09 boasts some outstanding performers including Llŷr Williams, Alexander Janiczek and Paul Lewis playing some of Schubert's best loved as well as his lesser known pieces.

The ‘An hour with...' events are an opportunity for people planning to attend the Schubertiad to listen to and gain further insight into four of the major works featured this year.

Monday's ‘An hour with...' takes place in the Tay Suite in Perth Concert Hall at 2pm and is an introduction to Schubert's Octet in F, D803.  It will be followed by a discussion of the Piano Quintet in A, D667 on Monday 21 September, Die Schöne Müllerin, D795 on Monday 28 September and the Quintet in C, D956 on Monday 5 October.  Tickets cost £5 and are available from Horsecross Box Office 01738 621 031 or click here
