The Perth Youth Theatre Festival is in full swing with one hundred and sixty PYT members taking part in a series of performances in Perth Theatre throughout June and July.
Now Horsecross is offering young people with no previous theatrical experience the opportunity to release their star potential by taking part in the10 Day Play summer performance project in Perth Studio Theatre.
Open to all 12 to 16 year olds, the 10 Day Play takes place on week days from Monday 6 July to Friday 17 July.
Led by theatre professionals, places are still available on the fun and creative summer course which will see participants craft a play from start to finish, culminating in a performance in the studio theatre for friends and family.
And, the young people will have the opportunity to showcase their own particular skills as Jennifer McGregor, associate director of Perth Youth Theatre explains:
"The emphasis is on performing, but it's not all about acting. We are looking for budding musicians, dancers and singers to come along and help us create the show. As well as exploring their own talent it is a great opportunity for them to meet like-minded friends and experience the excitement of working in a real theatre."
One Perth Youth Theatre member who is taking her interest in theatre a step further is 17 year old Maisie Cottingham. Maisie, who is currently rehearsing for Perth Youth Theatre Senior Company's production of The Keekin-Gless, has won a place at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Dance.
The former Kinross High School pupil's interest in theatre was sparked by attending a similar workshop run by Scottish Youth Theatre three years ago. She said:
"Like the Perth10 Day Play, the Scottish Youth Theatre workshop took place in a working theatre and involved devising a play with a performance at the end. It was as close to being a ‘real' theatrical experience as you could possibly get, totally different from the school productions I had previously done, and made me realise that this was something I really wanted to do."
Places on the 10 Day Play summer performance project can be booked by calling Horsecross Box Office on 01738 621 031.
