The Snow Queen will be descending from her Ice Palace at the top of the world to cast her wintry spell in this year's Christmas adventure at Perth Theatre.
Mixing a sprinkling of magic with a dusting of laughter and a dollop of evil, and serving up a feast of charming characters, the Horsecross production of Stuart Paterson's adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen classic has all the essential ingredients to make it an unforgettable festive treat for children and adults alike.
Director, Ian Grieve has worked closely with Stuart Paterson, and set and costume designer Robin Peoples, to create a colourful and exciting family show that will live long in the memories of those who see it. Expect special effects, illusion, snow and surprises in this energetic and imaginative take on the much-loved tale.
Claire Dargo plays plucky Gerda who sets out on a journey north to save her best friend Kay (Allan Gilmour) from the icy clutches of the Snow Queen, who is played by Amanda Beveridge.
On her journey, Gerda meets a host of crazy characters who both help and hinder her progress. These include wise-cracking ravens; Peck and Scruff played by Lesley Mackie and Suzanne Donaldson, a brave reindeer, a prince and princess and some greedy polar bears. She also encounters the wicked Cobweb Spider (Kenny Blyth) who is intent on stopping her in her tracks. Original music is provided by piping wizard Ross Ainslie.
The Snow Queen will be making her chilly presence felt in the run up to the festive season, as she appears at various events in and around the Fair City; so wrap up warm!
The Snow Queen runs at Perth Theatre from Friday 5 December until Saturday 3 January. For tickets, call the Horsecross Box Office on 01738 621 031 or click here.
