Horsecross scales literary heights

Horsecross launches new series with pinnacle event

He's scaled the world's highest peaks, leading expeditions in life-threatening conditions in the most inhospitable environments, but Sir Chris Bonington will be hoping for a warmer welcome when he launches a brand new programme at Perth Concert Hall.

With 47 years of intrepid expeditions under his climbing belt, numerous television series and a reputation as a truly inspiring public speaker, the world-famous mountaineer has been invited to open the first Horsecross Words Series.

A select number of best-selling authors has been invited to share the stories behind their novels, bringing a fascinating insight to the literary world to a Perth audience.
The first event in the autumn series will see Sir Chris take to the Concert Hall's main stage with a mulit-media presentation featuring footage from some of his 30-odd history-making expeditions, including his own Everest ascent and team-leading expeditions on the world's highest mountain as well as his explorations of undiscovered corners of the globe.

An eye-opening night is in store on Saturday 20 September for those fortunate enough to get their hands on tickets for this fast-selling event. Explore the world's harshest environments from the safety of a comfy chair in the Gannochy Auditorium!

As the Horsecross Words Series continues, hot on Sir Chris's well-travelled heels will be the criminal element when the best in crime fiction bring their talents to the Fair City with the Femmes Fatales afternoon on Wednesday 22 October featuring authors Lin Anderson, Alex Gray and Alanna Knight.

Costa Book of the Year author A L Kennedy follows on Thursday 30 October in a night that's sure to be entertaining thanks to her burgeoning second career as a stand-up comedian.
Young people's fiction will be the focus of the series on Saturday 25 October when authors Theresa Beslin and Celia Rees open their worlds of imagination and adventure to Perth audiences.
