Perth Concert Hall will play its part in a ground-breaking festival this weekend when local people take part in two free, inspirational new workshops.
The Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival launched last year to great acclaim and has extended its national programme of events for 2008. Crossing genres from comedy to literature; theatre to film, the festival looks at the links between creativity and mental health through various art-forms and community participation.
Kicking off in Perth this Friday with the specially devised Gothic terror, the Blair Witch project, the focus will turn to fun this Saturday and Sunday with spirit-lifting drama and music workshops welcoming adult participants to relaxed yet energising sessions. Under the motivating guidance of Horsecross's drama development coordinator, Suzi Morrice, participants will explore drama techniques as well as a toe-tapping percussion session.
Later the next week the concert hall will continue the feel-good vibe with a beautifully relaxing lunchtime concert with world-renowned violinist Thomas Gould. Also featuring pianist John Reid, the concert has a dual role in playing its part in Horsecross's Schubert festival, Schubertiad 2008, and in the mental health festival.
Thought provoking political drama, You Decide, concludes the festival for the Fair City on Friday 17 October.
"We're delighted to be part of this unique festival," said Suzi Morrice. "Participation in the arts can be empowering and liberating at the same time- but most of all, our workshops are fun and will leave participants buzzing with confidence."
