directing the future of youth theatre

The chance to develop a career in community and youth theatre as part of an acclaimed
trainee scheme is being offered by Horsecross Arts Ltd.

The company responsible for Perth Theatre and Perth Concert Hall is inviting
applications from drama workers and graduates throughout the country in a bid to
continue the success of its pioneering training programme.

Colin Bradie, Director of PromoteYT Scotland (the national body overseeing youth
theatre) said: "Perth Youth Theatre's Trainee Scheme is unique to the youth theatre
sector of Scotland playing a crucial role in providing invaluable apprenticeships to
aspiring youth theatre practitioners."

The Perth-based Trainee Directors Scheme is the only one of its kind in Scotland and,
already, has assisted more than 20 graduates in developing their careers. Run alongside
Perth Youth Theatre (PYT), the scheme began six years ago and is now looking for
three more recruits keen to develop their skills. The programme is designed for those
who wish to pursue a career in the field of community drama or directing but who feel
they would benefit from additional hands-on experience.

Perth's trainee youth directors have gone on to write, produce, direct and teach in roles
throughout Scottish Theatre and beyond, having gained professional experience via the
Horsecross project. Jenny Chalmers, one of last years trainees explained the benefits:
"Not only have I gained experience as a practitioner but also as an individual. The Perth
Youth Theatre Trainee Scheme focuses on the individual's potential and throws all
resources towards advancing it. I am eternally grateful for the experience and the people
I have had the opportunity to work with."

Successful applicants will work alongside professional theatre practitioners to plan and
deliver drama workshops for Perth Youth Theatre. In addition, trainees will act as
assistant director for a minimum of one PYT production. Trainees will also have the
opportunity to gain experience of community and education projects where possible.
Candidates must be over 18 and able to demonstrate some or all of the following:
