Celia Rees blazes into Perth

Perth Concert Hall will be a staging post for teen author Celia Rees on her journey to promote Sovay, her exciting new novel about the adventures of highwayman ‘Captain Blaze'.

The infamous highwayman is, in fact Sovay, a head-strong and wilful young woman, frustrated by the restrictions of her life in the late 18th Century.

On discovering that her fiancé has betrayed her, Sovay adopts the disguise of a highway robber to expose him, but, having tasted the freedom offered by the life of a highwayman, she uses the disguise more and more, to ever greater adventure and danger.

With her independent spirit and her refusal to conform to the norm, Sovay shares the characteristics of many of Celia Rees female protagonists, qualities that will no doubt resonate with a young Perth audience.

Originally from Solihull in the West Midlands, Celia Rees is the author of Witch Child which was shortlisted for the Guardian Book Award, and Sorceress, shortlisted for the Whitbread Children's Book Award.

Celia Rees will be reading extracts from Sovay and discussing the inspiration behind the book in the Norrie-Miller Studio at Perth Concert Hall on Saturday 25th October at 4pm.

At 10am and 11.30am on Saturday 25th October, young witches and wizards (aged 4+) can take an active part in a Hallowe'en storytelling session in the Norrie-Miller Studio at Perth Concert Hall.  Theresa Breslin, author of the Magic Factory series will call on her audience to help tell her magical tale, Trick or Treat.  Prizes will be given for the best Magic Factory costume!
