A L Kennedy returns to her roots

Dundee's A L Kennedy is returning to her Tayside roots to take part in the Horsecross Words Series at Perth Concert Hall.

Described by Salmon Rushdie as:  "A writer rich in the humanity and warmth that seems at a premium in these bleak times", the Costa Book of the Year winner will be reading extracts from her work, including her new short story collection, and her most recent novel; Day, on Thursday 30 October in the Norie-Miller Studio at the Perth venue.

Day tells the tale of Alfred Day, a former Lancaster bomber tail-gunner, struggling to make sense of a post war life which finds him alone and questioning his role in society.  While those around him attempt to forget the horrors of the war, Alfred clings on to the one reality he recognises by taking a part as an extra in a 1949 POW film.

An acclaimed author who has also found fame as a comedian, A L Kennedy's work is characterised by dark humour, close observation and an exciting use of original language.  Her audiences have learnt to expect the unexpected from her personal appearances as she has been known to veer substantially from the plot and enter into one of her stand up routines!

A L Kennedy will also be taking part in a book signing after the event.
